A book meme, stolen from Merrie…

I’ll put this under a cut to spare those who aren’t interested…

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?

Science Fiction, followed by Fantasy, and Horror a distant third.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback?

Hrm. Hardback if it’s something I’m really looking forward to. Otherwise, mass market works for me.

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?

I prefer Amazon if I know what I want, but I’ll go to a brick and mortar one if I’m just browsing.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?

Barnes & Noble.

Hitchhiker or Discworld?

Hitchhiker definitely, as I’ve never read any of the Discworld books. I HAVE read Good Omens, which Pratchett cowrote with Neil Gaiman, so reading Discworld is not out of the question…

Bookmark or Dogear?

Bookmarks. I can’t stand bending or folding book pages.

Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction?

I’ll have to say Fantasy & Science Fiction, though I like the hard sci-fi too.

Alphabetize by author, Alphabetize by title, or random?

I alphabetize by author. I admit, I’m kind of anal that way.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell?

Keep! If nothing else, they look good on the bookshelves…

Keep dust-jacket or toss it?

Keep, of course. They look better that way, in my opinion.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?

I read with it, for the same reason Merrie does: it becomes my bookmark.

Short story or novel?

I prefer novels.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?

I haven’t read either, but I do plan on finally reading Mom’s copies of the Harry Potter books…

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?

I stop reading when tired, as I can never “pace” myself. :-)

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time?”

Neither, if I can at all help it.

Buy or Borrow?

Buy.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?

I go for recommendations first, but browsing is always good too.

Lewis or Tolkien?

Tolkien.

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?

Ehhh… I’ll have to go with anthologies, as that’s what I have more of.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?

I prefer a tidy ending, unless I know the resolution to the cliffhanger is soon in coming.

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?

Anytime reading!

Standalone or Series?

Most of my books are series, but in reality I have no real preference.

New or used?

I prefer new. :-)

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?

I’m sure there are others here who have heard of them, but I’ll have to say either In the Hall of the Dragon King by Stephen Lawhead or Anno Dracula by Kim Newman.

Top 5 favorite genre books of all time?

Like Merrie said, too many to list here.

Favorite genre series?

Hrm… I’ll have to say The Dark Tower by Stephen King.

Currently Reading?

Nothing right now, though I keep meaning to pick up Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling or 7 Deadly Wonders by Matthew Reilly.
